Luke Littler vs Luke Humphries: the "Battle of the Lukes" in darts

Luke Littler and Luke Humphries have faced off more than any other two players on the PDC stage in recent years, a rivalry fans call the "Battle of the Lukes." They're more than a decade apart in age and came up in different eras, but sharing a first name and both climbing to the very top has made this the most talked-about matchup in darts right now. Here's how the head-to-head has swung so far, and how they each talk about facing each other.

Two Lukes, two different eras

Humphries was born in 1995 in Reading, England, nicknamed Cool Hand, and took longer to break into the very top tier. Littler was born in 2007 and reached a World Championship final at just 17, putting more than a decade between them. The two first got grouped together for real at the 2024 World Championship final, where a 16-year-old Littler made his first World Championship final, against Humphries. Humphries won that one 7–4 and took world No. 1 at the same time, the first genuine big-stage clash between them.

2025: Littler beats Humphries in final after final

The balance of power flipped completely the next year. At the 2025 World Grand Prix final, Littler won big, 6–1. At that year's Grand Slam of Darts final, Littler beat Humphries again, 16–11, to defend his title. That run of form carried Littler to world No. 1 in November 2025, at 18 years and 299 days old, the youngest world No. 1 in PDC history, breaking Michael van Gerwen's 2014 record of 24 years and 251 days.

2026: Humphries stops the bleeding, the race swings back

In the first half of 2026, Humphries kept losing deciding legs to Littler, including at the Masters, the Premier League, and the Nordic Darts Masters. At the US Darts Masters final in June, Humphries finally held on in the decider, 8–7, to defend his title and snap that losing run. It didn't stay his for long, though: at that year's Premier League final in May, Littler avenged the previous year's loss, 11–10. By September, at the Czech Darts Open final, Littler won again, 8–6, their most recent meeting so far.

How Humphries talks about this rivalry

Humphries has spoken publicly more than once about how much this matchup means to him. In October 2025, after a World Grand Prix semi-final, he told reporters: "There's a lot of good games in the world of darts nowadays, but I still think that me and Luke is the biggest game in world darts." After winning the US Darts Masters in June 2026, he admitted a one-sided rivalry isn't really a healthy one, and said he felt he'd been picking up more consistent wins against Littler lately, which he saw as good for the sport overall. Even so, after losing the Winmau World Masters final 6–5 in February 2026, he told reporters it might be too early to say, but that he believed Littler was already the greatest darts player of all time.

Teammates off the oche

The two go head-to-head individually, but line up together when it's England on the line. At the 2026 World Cup of Darts final in Frankfurt, Littler and Humphries paired up to beat the Netherlands' van Gerwen and van Veen, 10–5, England's sixth title in the event. Teaming up smoothly on the same side is a different story from the back-and-forth they put each other through one-on-one.
