Luke Littler is the youngest PDC World Champion in darts history, crowning himself at just 17, nicknamed The Nuke. Here's who he is, where the nickname came from, his career highlights, and what he's said about his practice habits and the darts he throws.
Who is Luke Littler: the kid who picked up a dart at 18 months
Littler was born in 2007 in Warrington, England. His father reportedly bought him a magnetic dartboard, and he started playing from around 18 months old, hit his first 180 at age 6, and threw a nine-dart finish at 13. He trained at St Helens Darts Academy from age 10. These details show he wasn't just a sudden phenomenon: he's been building up to this his whole childhood.
"The Nuke" was his own idea, with his dad
There's no complicated backstory to the nickname. Littler has said that at 13 or 14, he and his dad were sitting in a pub trying to think one up, and "Nuke" was purely because it rhymes with "Luke," nothing to do with a powerful throw or any particular incident.
17, and the youngest PDC World Champion ever
At the 2025 PDC World Championship final, Littler beat three-time champion Michael van Gerwen 7–3, becoming the youngest PDC World Champion in history at 17 years and 347 days old. Before that final, he'd already reached a World Championship final once, in 2024 (losing to Luke Humphries), meaning he made back-to-back finals and won on his second try.
Defended the title the next year, and set another record
At the World Championship held from December 2025 into January 2026, Littler defended his title with a 7–1 final win over Gian van Veen, dropping only 4 sets across the entire tournament, becoming the fourth player ever to successfully defend a world title (after Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson), and the first to do it since Anderson.
His practice time is shorter than you'd think
Littler has said in interviews that he practises less than an hour a day, that practising longer bores him, and that he doesn't mess with what's already working. He's also admitted his stage mental game still isn't where it needs to be: under pressure he'll occasionally lose it and fling darts at the board out of frustration, something he says he's still working on.
He throws his own Target signature set
Littler was signed by Target Darts at age 12, one of the longest-running young players in the brand's stable. After his second world title, the two sides reportedly renewed with what's been called the biggest sponsorship deal in darts history. He currently throws his own signature Gen 1 darts: 23g, 90% tungsten.
