Who Is Mayumi Ouchi? Japan's 7-Time Japan Open Women's Champion

Mayumi Ouchi has won more Japan Open women's titles than anyone else in Japanese darts history, taking the national championship seven times over her career. If you follow the Japanese soft-tip scene, her name comes up constantly, and for good reason. Here's who she is, how she built that seven-title run, and the other sport she loves off the oche: surfing.

Who is Mayumi Ouchi: the veteran from Yokosuka, Kanagawa

Ouchi was born on May 16, 1979 in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. Darts runs in the family: her father, Masatami Ouchi, competed on the circuit himself from 2003 to 2007. She turned pro in 2003 and picked up the nickname "The Wave Rider" because she's genuinely an amateur surfer off the board. Her walk-on song is Bruno Mars's "Uptown Funk."

Seven Japan Open women's titles

Ouchi's signature achievement is her seven Japan Open women's titles: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2019, 2023 and 2025, a run spanning nearly two decades. No other woman has won the event that many times. The spread of years is the real story: this isn't one hot streak, it's staying at the top of Japanese women's darts across three different eras of the sport.

Ten World Masters appearances, semifinal in 2022

Beyond the domestic circuit, Ouchi has represented Japan at the World Masters ten times, reaching the last 16 on four separate occasions early in her career (2012, 2014, 2015, 2019) before her best-ever run: a semifinal appearance in 2022. At continental level she's just as consistent: she took silver in women's pairs at the 2004 WDF Asia-Pacific Cup alongside Yukari Nishikawa, then swept three medals at the 2024 edition, gold in the women's team event plus bronze in both singles and pairs.

These days Ouchi is sponsored by DYNASTY, throwing their 20g barrels. Her DYNASTY soft tip signature darts are in our online darts shop: search for 大内麻由美 (the shop is in Chinese, so search her name in Japanese characters). From her first title in 2007 to her most recent in 2025, she's spent almost two decades proving that staying consistent is the hardest record of all, longer than most players' entire careers.
