Mikuru Suzuki is the most important woman in Japanese darts history. She won back-to-back BDO World Championships in 2019 and 2020, becoming the first Asian woman ever to take the title. Here's how she got into darts, how she won two world titles in a row, the 2023 match where she ended a 70-game winning streak, and her marriage to fellow pro Haruki Muramatsu.
Who is Mikuru Suzuki: the Osaka native who picked up darts at 26
Suzuki was born on February 5, 1982, in Suita, Osaka Prefecture. By most accounts she didn't pick up darts until around age 26, a late start for a player who'd go on to rule the sport. She later based herself in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture. Her nickname is "The Miracle," and she's sponsored by Target (the 24g Target Signature Gen 6) and L-style. Her Target soft tip signature darts (THE MIRACLE) and her L-style flights are in our online darts shop: search for 鈴木未來 (the shop is in Chinese, so search her name in Japanese characters).
Back-to-back BDO World Champion, 2019 and 2020
Suzuki's biggest achievement is winning the BDO World Championship in both 2019 and 2020: she beat Lorraine Winstanley in the 2019 final and Lisa Ashton in the 2020 final, making her the first Asian woman to hold the title. She's also made the mixed PDC World Championship main draw twice, in 2020 and 2024.
2023: the day she ended Beau Greaves' 70-match winning streak
On February 26, 2023, at leg 3 of the PDC Women's Series, Suzuki beat British rising star Beau Greaves 5-4 in the semifinal, ending a run of 70 straight wins and 10 titles in a row. She went on to win that event too, beating Rhian O'Sullivan 5-1 in the final. The two met again later that year at the Women's World Matchplay final, where Greaves turned the tables and Suzuki finished runner-up, proof they were the two best players in the world that season.
Married to fellow pro Haruki Muramatsu
Suzuki is married to Haruki Muramatsu, another Japanese darts pro. The couple officially registered their marriage on December 12, 2025, but only made it public on February 14, 2026, after Muramatsu won JAPAN Tour Stage 17 in Shizuoka and confirmed it in his post-match interview. Suzuki now sometimes goes by her married name, Mikuru Muramatsu.
