Looking for things to do in Taipei at night? Your daytime plan is sorted, then the sun goes down and you're not sure where to go. Here's a practical list for a first visit: night markets, city views, East District wandering, and one place where you can sit down and play something.
Start with a night market
A night market is the most direct way to feel Taipei after dark. The city has several big ones, each with its own specialties, and they usually get busy from early evening. Snacks come in small portions, so leave some room and eat your way down the row. Carry a bit of cash, and expect a queue at the popular stalls. Hours and closing days differ from market to market, so check opening details before you go.
More things to do in Taipei at night: views and the East District
For a view, the area around Taipei 101 in the Xinyi District is a good bet after dark. Even if you skip the observatory, a walk around it is worth your time. For shopping and wandering, the back lanes of the East District have clothing shops, cafés, restaurants and bars. There's a fuller rundown in our Taipei East District guide.
Getting around at night: MRT and convenience stores
The MRT is easy to use, and one EasyCard covers the MRT and buses and works at convenience stores too. But the MRT stops running around midnight, so check the last train time through the MRT's official information and have a plan for getting back. After that, taxis and ride-hailing apps are the fallback. Convenience stores are on almost every corner and plenty are open 24 hours, handy for water, drinks or a small late snack.
Something to play: a 24-hour darts bar in the East District
If you want to sit down and do something with friends, AI DARTS is one option. It's a full set of Phoenix electronic dart machines, and you don't need to know how to play, since the staff can show you.
- Open 24 hours, every day of the year, no minimum spend.
- In the East District, a short walk from the Bannan Line (Blue Line) between Zhongxiao Dunhua and Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall stations. Address: No.1, Aly. 15, Ln. 345, Sec. 4, Ren'ai Rd, Da'an District, Taipei 106.
- You can bring your own drinks (during counter hours, more than 3 bottles of alcohol per person carries a NT$50 cleaning fee).
- Beer is NT$100 a bottle: Taiwan Beer, Budweiser or Heineken, your pick. There are cocktails too; what's on offer is best checked at the bar.
- Food comes from Hotdogray, an American hot dog stand that started as a street stall in 2017. The signature seared cheese & meat sauce hot dog is NT$100, and sparkling drinks are NT$65.
See the full menu here. The kitchen runs on a schedule, so check at the venue or on LINE for food service hours. Nervous about your first time at a darts bar? Our first-visit guide walks through it step by step.
Rainy night or can't sleep?
If it's raining, see our list of indoor things to do in Taipei. And if jet lag has you wide awake in the middle of the night, your options shrink fast, so places that stay open 24 hours come in handy: convenience stores, or an all-hours spot like AI DARTS.
In short: a night market in the early evening, views or East District wandering after dark, and somewhere indoors to sit and play. Check opening details for the markets and sights before you head out.
